A safe and effective fast acting treatment to reduce mild to moderate acne. The IPL destroys bacteria present in acne skin while inhibiting future breakouts. Plus, it coagulates scar tissue, refines pores, and improves skin healing and texture.
The action of pulsed light on acne is based on the heating of the porphyrin produced by the bacteria Propionbacterium acnes on the skin. The result is the destruction of the cell membrane of the bacteria and the resulting aseptic skin.
The treatment of acne scars and evolutionary acne by pulsed light can be preceded or accompanied by a non-photosensitising antibiotic and/or hormone therapy (ethinyl estradiol or cyproterone acetate).
Pulsed light treatment is generally indicated for retentional acne or inflammatory acne of minor or medium severity. The treatment can be done on men and women, for the aesthetic care of the party of the body affected (face, shoulders etc.). It is possible to treat subjects with skin phototypes up to III.
Done in conjunction with general treatment, pulsed light is effective for medium and severe acne. Pulsed light also works on acne scars by stimulating the cells to produce collagen.
The number of sessions depends on the severity of the acne. The treatment may be followed by antibiotic therapy until the disappearance of the acne. In general, an interval of 1 to 2 weeks between sessions is necessary.
